Week 3 Constructivist Comic
My
comic is simplistic but I am hoping it conveys the constructivist approach
within a Design and Technology class using 3D printing technologies.
I
have attempted to capture the theoretical ideas of Piaget, by having the
guest speaker and the student characters both talk about the building of skills
and gradual acquisition of knowledge. As well as Vygotsky, by having the guest
speaker tell a social story to create the interpersonal aspect of social
constructivism (Harasim, 2017. p.p. 63-68; Bower, 2017. p.p. 442-45). While
this is a simplified view of both theorists, hopefully it is adequately
conveyed. I have a personal preference for the constructivist approach to
learning and believe that learners have always used the constructivist approach
irrespective of previous theories. Students cannot learn if they are not
building on already existing foundations of knowledge. Using the Zone of Proximal
Development (Bower, 2017. p. 44.) is also an effective way for teachers to include
differentiation for their students.
